Clan Crests
Free Lineage 2 clan crests for every chronicle — ready-to-use 16×12 256-color BMP files for Interlude, High Five, Gracia Final, Classic and Essence private servers. Below you'll find the official specs, a step-by-step setup guide, our downloadable crest pack, and tips for making your own.
How to Add a Clan Crest in Lineage 2
Setting a clan crest takes 30 seconds once you have a properly formatted BMP file. Your clan must be level 3 or higher — lower-level clans don't have the option enabled.
- Save your crest BMP somewhere easy to find, e.g.
C:\crest.bmp. - Log into Lineage 2 with your clan leader character.
- Press Alt + C to open the Clan window.
- Click the Register Crest (or Set Crest) button.
- Browse to your
crest.bmpfile and click Open. - The crest appears immediately in the clan window and on your character's title.
If the button is greyed out, your clan isn't level 3 yet, or your character isn't the clan leader. Some servers use a chat command instead: /pledge crest [path] — check your server's wiki if the UI button doesn't work.
Clan Crest Specifications
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 16 × 12 pixels |
| File format | BMP (Windows Bitmap) |
| Color depth | 8-bit indexed (256 colors) |

The 16×12 size is the standard from Interlude through Essence. Older chronicles (C1–C3) used 8×12 for clan crests — check your server's chronicle if your image is being rejected.
Ally Crest Specifications
Alliance crests are smaller because they render at icon size next to the clan crest in chat and UI. Only the alliance leader can set the ally crest.

How to Make Your Own Custom L2 Crest
You can create a unique crest in any image editor. The trick is the strict 16×12 dimensions and 256-color palette — modern editors save 24-bit BMP by default, which the L2 client rejects.
Method 1: Photoshop
- File → New: width 16, height 12, RGB color, 72 DPI.
- Design your crest with no anti-aliasing (use Pencil tool, not Brush).
- Image → Mode → Indexed Color. Set palette to Local (Selective), colors to 256.
- File → Save As: format BMP. In the BMP options dialog, choose 8 Bit.
Method 2: GIMP (free)
- File → New: 16 × 12 px.
- Disable anti-aliasing in tool options.
- Image → Mode → Indexed. Generate optimum palette, max 256 colors.
- File → Export As: filename ending in
.bmp. In the BMP export dialog leave defaults.
Method 3: L2 Crest Maker (easiest)
If you don't want to fight Photoshop's color modes, L2 Crest Maker is a free portable Windows tool that converts any source image into a valid 16×12 256-color L2 crest in one click. No installation, no Photoshop required — just drop your source image, tweak the colors, hit save. Useful for converting team logos, anime icons, or coat-of-arms designs into game-ready format.
Common Issues
"Invalid file format" error when uploading: The file isn't a true 8-bit indexed BMP. Most editors save 24-bit by default. Re-save with the indexed/256-color setting forced.
Crest dimensions are wrong: The L2 client requires exact 16×12 (or 8×12 for ally). Even 17×12 fails. Crop or resize without scaling artifacts.
Crest shows as black or wrong colors: Your indexed palette is missing or corrupted. In Photoshop, redo Image → Mode → Indexed Color and pick Selective palette. In GIMP, redo Image → Mode → Indexed.
Crest button greyed out in clan panel: Clan must be level 3+. Increase reputation through clan quests until level 3, then retry.
Crest doesn't show in chat: The client caches images. Log out and log back in — or restart the L2 client — for the new crest to appear.
Ally crest not appearing: Only the alliance leader can set the ally crest. Clan leaders below alliance leader will see the option greyed out.
